Hello, Nerge Community,
Thank you to all of the families who attended the “Taste of Nerge” event last night. There were well over 500 people here and everyone has shared many positive comments with me today about the event. The words of one of our very dedicated and involved Nerge parents says it all: “ I have been here at Nerge for over 12 years and this was the BEST event Nerge has ever had.” Another parent shared, “I wish every child could experience something magnificent like this.” It goes without saying that I am a very proud principal today. The dedication and passion of our staff and students working so hard this past week by researching and learning about each country (Nerge facts in Early Childhood), USA, India, Poland, Japan, Italy, Ireland, China, Mexico), creating a final written product to share as part of our “Celebrate Reading and Writing” event, and the performances, food, and artifacts that were shared from our own Nerge families about their culture is what makes our building so special. A special thank you goes out to the PTA who sponsored $1000 to support this event. We will be posting photos of the event on our webpage in the future.
Thank you, everyone, for celebrating the diversity with us at this very special event!!!!
There is no newsletter edition attached here this week, but please be watching for next weeks’ email that will contain many important upcoming dates.
Have a great weekend!!!!
Amanda Clark, Principal
Dear Nerge Community,
The art work and recorder concert this past Wednesday was fabulous!!! The work that Mrs. Chen is able to guide students to accomplish is a final product that is one to save and frame and hang on your wall. The kids produce amazing final products that they are all so proud to share. I hope you also enjoyed the musical performances that Mrs. Bele pulls together for our kids to shine. The 5th Grade “Link Up” portion of the concert has evolved out of one of our Enrichment Activities that happens during the lunch hour once a week. The kids have all worked very hard and we appreciate you attending to offer your support and encouragement. There are many things to update you about here and in our newsletter link at the bottom of this email.

Dear Nerge Community,
Last Night’s Musical Production, “Broadway Beat” was amazing. The talent of our students is incredible! They have worked very hard and are excited to perform for an audience again tonight. We hope you will be able to join us here in the Nerge Gym. The show starts at 7:00 PM, but the parents will be asked to wait outside until the “theater” doors open at 6:45 PM. We ask that you bring a canned good donation for your entry.
MAP testing will begin the week of April 23 and last two weeks. Make-up testing will occur throughout the testing window. Thank you ahead of time for encouraging your child to do their best to demonstrate what they have learned this year. Please inquire with your son/daughter about their MAP goals, their class MAP goals, etc. They are working to demonstrate to themselves, you, and their teacher, the terrific gains they made this year. We are so proud of them.
The Hoffman Estates High School Community Literacy Outreach Barnes & Noble Book Fair is scheduled for April 14th. All proceeds will benefit District 54 literacy programs. To maximize the fundraiser potential they have also coordinated with Fuddruckers for a Books and Burgers fundraiser on the same day. If you are unable to make it, the Barnes & Noble Book Fair is good for online purchases, just put in the Book Fair ID when checking out. Here is the website with more information: http://www.hehs.d211.org/ . Please consider supporting our schools by attending this very worthy event.
We are already beginning to make plans for next year and are starting our process for placing students for the 2012/13 school year. If you would like to give specific information about the needs of your child, please feel free to stop by the office and pick up a Student Profile Sheet and return it to the school office by April 27.
There is no edition of the “Nerge Knightly News” newsletter this week. Hope to see you tonight for the “Broadway Beat!”
Have a great weekend!

Dear Nerge Community,
Spring Break is almost here!!!! I am sending out the newsletter to you a day earlier than usual to give you some important reminders before you begin your family fun week with your children.
· NO HOT LUNCH TOMORROW!!!! Please remember to send a lunch to school with your child on Friday, March 23. The next Hot Lunch will be available on April 13.
· Thank you for all of those who attended our Family Reading Night on Wednesday, March 21. We raised well over $2000 just in one evening. Clifford arrived to share in the photo opportunities while teachers helped students make their “Clifford Ears.” Paw print cookies and punch were available for a snack break from the shopping. A fun time was had by all and we appreciate your support of the Spring Book Fair fundraiser. Tomorrow is the last shopping day for the Book Fair, so please send in money with your child if they have any last minute purchases.
· Since the weather is warmer and sunny skies are upon us, our students are eager to get home and play outside after school. With this in mind, please be mindful of the children on patrol duty, particularly at the four way stop. Our students are performing acts of service for us with adults on duty for support to assist students in crossing, getting on the correct busses, and escorting our youngest Nerge Noble Knights in Kindergarten and Early Childhood to be dropped off and picked up at the right places. Parents that are in a hurry and speed around waiting cars on Jennifer Lane or cut through the parking lot among busses are putting all students and adults in danger. Please slow down and be safe!!!!
· Please check the Lost and Found table for any lost coats, boots, hats, gloves, scarves, jackets, etc. We will pack everything up at the end of the day tomorrow, Friday, March 23 and donate any remaining items to the Community Closet.
· Please mark your calendar with the following upcoming dates:
March 23rd – Spring Break begins @ 3:00 p.m.
April 2nd – Classes Resume
April 2nd – Pizza Monday
April 5th – Board of Education meeting – 7:00 PM
April 6th – NO SCHOOL
April 9 – Pizza Monday
April 12 – School-wide Musical, “Broadway Beat” in Nerge Gym at 7:00 PM for Last Names A – L
April 13 – School-wide Musical, “Broadway Beat” in Nerge Gym at 7:00 PM for Last Names M – Z
April 16th – Pizza Monday
April 17th – Birthday Books
PTA Meeting at 6:00 PM in Teacher’s Lounge
End of 2nd Mid-Trimester
April 18th – Recorder Concert for 4th Grade and 5th Grade “Link Up” students – 6:30 PM

The PTA Newsletter will now be posted on our school website. Each month, the link will be emailed for your reference. Please take a moment to read the great things going on at Nerge and with the PTA.
Have a wonderful, safe, restful, and fun Spring Break with your family!

Top o’ the morning to ya, fabulous Nerge Community, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!
There is no newsletter attached today, but we just wanted to touch base with you about a few things.
The younger students today arrived at school to see if their Leprechaun traps worked and were surprised to see their classrooms were in shambles with a trail of glitter and gold-wrapped coins left on their desks. Not one student was able to catch those naughty rascals, but we’ll keep our eyes open and our traps set just in case. Thank you, parents, for helping your children finish their amazing creations and putting a little bit of “magic” in their hearts this week. Life is too short to be serious all the time, so I’m glad you support us having some fun here at Nerge once in a while.
Enjoy the beautiful record breaking weather this weekend and be sure to schedule some fun family activities outside together!!!!
Have a great weekend!
Amanda Clark, Principal
