Welcome to Nerge School

It is with great excitement and pride that I welcome you to the Frederick Nerge Elementary School website.  Our Preschool-6th grade school is part of the Schaumburg School District 54 and consists of around 580 students that live in the surrounding neighborhood area.  Our staff works collaboratively in grade-level teams to provide a rich environment for learning that is driven by data-based decisions to guide their instruction.  Through the years, Nerge School has maintained a reputation of excellence in the Roselle community, reflecting the high quality of instruction, dedicated and professional teachers, strong community support, active parental involvement, academic accomplishment, and dynamic participation of students in enrichments such as band, orchestra, choir, our school-wide musical, athletics, and many other student-focused activities.

Students begin their school day at 8:40am and are dismissed at 3:00pm daily and have an early release time of 2:30pm on Wednesday of each week.   All students are engaged in a 120 minute literacy block, participate in 60 minutes of PE, Music, Art, and LRC (Learning Resource Center) time each week, as well as a variety of other opportunities.  Our TAG (Targeted Accelerated Growth) intervention meets daily for 30 minutes.  This allows teachers to meet with small groups of students for an intensive instruction targeted for enhancement of specific literacy skills.

It is our mission in Schaumburg School District 54 to “Ensure Student Success.”  Here at Nerge, it is the commitment of our school community to work collaboratively in order to provide a safe learning environment that empowers all students to achieve their expected learning outcomes.  Through our collective efforts, our students will grow to become critical thinkers, informed decision makers, and respectful members of a diverse global community.  Our school community envisions Nerge as an exemplary school where: All students demonstrate high levels of achievement. The learning environment is safe, respectful, and consistent. Staff and community work together to foster learning. We value and promote open communication within the Nerge community. Student and staff achievements are acknowledged, valued, and celebrated.

We are committed to the PBIS (Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports) school-wide discipline plan.  We have three positive and simple expectations of our students that we revisit across the building frequently:  “Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.”  The staff at Nerge recognizes student accomplishments through ongoing celebrations when students meet expectations and goals that students are involved in setting.

The Nerge staff has targeted our instructional goals for comprehension strategies, direct vocabulary instruction, and writing as part of our school improvement plan.  These areas of academic achievement will be assessed through the core program’s unit and weekly tests, grade level common assessments, MAP assessments, and a variety of other types to determine each students’ progress and implement individual plans through our Response to Intervention system.

The PTA at Nerge is an extremely active organization constantly planning events that support the entire school community.  Events such as Science Fairs, SpiritWear, Yearbooks, Triathlon event, Book Fairs, Field Day, Celebrate Reading and Writing Event, Bully Free Zone, weekly Newsletters, Publicity, Scholarship support, and weekly Hot Lunch programs are just a few ways that our generous parents strive to create a cooperative and interactive environment where children have an opportunity to develop their potential in an ever-changing world.

In the constantly evolving world of education, we continually search for ways to better prepare our students for the 21st century.  There are many outstanding teachers, programs, events, and support already in place within the walls of our school.  With great enthusiasm, I look forward to a positive, educationally rewarding year with the staff, children, and families of Frederick Nerge Elementary School!  We welcome the opportunity to share more with you so please look through our website or you can contact us at 847-357-5777 with any questions or to arrange a tour.

Sincerely,

Amanda Clark
