NERGE ELEMENTARY NEWSLETTER

Dear Nerge Community,

Nerge Kingdom is filled with knights focused on learning!  We enjoyed welcoming kindergarten students to school last week on Monday.  Our knights have been busy getting in tip-top school shape- practicing the noble expectations, engaging in activities to get to know one another, creating classroom communities, and establishing instructional routines.  Just ask your child how many blue tickets they have already earned!  We look forward to a great week at the castle.  Please see below for Nerge and District 54 information and announcements.

Fondly,

Kari Frederick                          Kristine BeltPrincipal                                  Assistant Principal

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Thank you for reviewing our arrival and dismissal procedures with your child and family.   It is important that we all work together to ensure it is smooth, safe, and efficient.  Please note, if you would like to assist your child with exiting the car and/or escort your child down the path, please pull all the way up Jennifer Lane, past the concrete area so that our drop and go car lane can maintain a steady flow.

We also ask that you assist in keeping our building secure.  If you are entering/exiting our school, please refrain from holding the door open for others.  Instead, allow our main office buzz in each visitor.  We also request that you wait until after arrival or dismissal to visit the main office and wait to be buzzed in by one of our secretaries.  We appreciate your efforts to keeping Nerge Castle safe for all inside!

Bus Riders

We are grateful for your patience and understanding as Nerge bus routes were recently adjusted.  Please talk with your child about the importance of following the assigned seating chart on the bus as this will help us with contact tracing if needed.  Each student’s name is posted above their assigned seat.

Crisis Drills

Each year, our students participate in a number of safety drills such as first drills, hard lockdown drills, and shelter in place drills to be prepared in case of an emergency.  We will be notifying our families prior to each of these drills.

Attendance Line

Thank you for making us aware of student absences by contacting the Nerge attendance line at 847-357-5776.

Lunch Boxes, Water bottles, and Student Items

Help us keep track of your child’s belongings!  We encourage you to label your child’s lunch box and water bottle with his/her name and room number.  We also recommend labeling student jackets etc… with names as our student lost and found already has a few items!

The Nerge Family Handbook

The Nerge Family Handbook linked here provides you and your family with an abundance of Nerge information including various school procedures, policies, and behavioral expectations for our knights.  Thank you in advance for spending the time reading through the information provided and discussing it with your child.  Link to The Nerge Family Handbook

Nerge PTA

We hope your family will consider joining the Nerge PTA.  Click on this link to learn more about how they support our students and school.  Link to Nerge PTA

Hot Lunch

We are looking forward to being able to offer Hot Lunch to our Nerge Knights but we need your help. We need a few more volunteers for this committee. Volunteers needed to contact vendors, schedule hot lunches and create volunteer sign-ups. Please click here to volunteer or email us at [email protected].

What are other ways I can help?

You can help by joining the PTA! By joining the PTA, your money is supporting the organization at local and national levels, and it also goes directly into supporting programs at Nerge. This money allows us to provide cultural arts programs for the students, Nerge folders for the incoming kindergartners, before and after school clubs, field day equipment, birthday books, teacher appreciation week and so much more! Please click here to support your school by joining the PTA.

Box Tops

Box Tops is an easy way to earn cash for our school!  We are still collecting clipped Box Tops.  These are being phased out and replaced by the digital version, but we can still submit them for cash.  Each Box Top is $.10 cash.  Our next deadline to submit clipped Box Tops is coming up.  Please send any unexpired clipped labels to school by October 25th.

Please download the Box Tops app. It’s an easy way to make a difference. All you have to do is buy Box Tops participating products (like Cheerios!) and scan your grocery receipt.  Twice a year, our school receives a check to help pay for whatever we need – equipment, supplies or experiences the kids love!

Download the Box Tops for Education app here or click on this link and help support our school.  Have friends and family download the app also and select Nerge as their supporting school.  You can contribute if you shop online by emailing your digital receipt to [email protected].  It’s easier than ever!
