Nerge News 12.9.19

We ended the first week of December celebrating the completion of another unit of our social emotional learning (SEL) curriculum with our buddy classrooms.  Students spent the time together executing a conscious act of kindness for people in two incredible locations: The Ronald McDonald House and Friendship Village.  The month of December will be focused on theme of the feelings of others.

Thank you to all the families and staff members who volunteered and participated in our annual Breakfast with Santa and Holiday Shop on Saturday morning.  It was wonderful ringing in holiday cheer with all of you (especially with pancakes)!  Below you will find information about upcoming events.  Enjoy the week!

Nerge News 12.2.19

We hope you all enjoyed the extended weekend and Thanksgiving holiday with loved ones!  In addition to learning, the two days leading up to our break were filled with peak moments at Nerge.  Our 2nd grade students proudly displayed their writing about turkeys in disguise.  The Mead and Conant Choirs rang in happiness for our 4-6 grade students and, hopefully, recruited some Nerge knights to consider joining choir in the future.  Classrooms celebrated completing the 21 Day Challenge of transforming a happiness tactic into a habit by decorating their entryways for a festive December.

We are looking forward to this full week of learning to kick off December.  Please see below for upcoming Nerge news and events.

Outdoor Recess and Severe Weather Response

We can’t believe Jack Frost is already nipping at our noses!  Please be advised that we will continue to have outdoor recess each day should temperatures or wind chill be above 0 degrees.  Relatedly, it is important to send your child with the appropriate winter clothing each day that may include items such as a hat, gloves, winter jacket, scarf, snow pants, and winter waterproof boots.  Should temperatures or wind chill all at or below 0 degrees, we will line up inside the building during arrival and have indoor lunch recess.

With the weather conditions we have been experiencing already, it is important to also note our severe weather response protocol.  Please click here to review our district’s plan.

Mead Sixth Grade Parent and Student Night- DATE CHANGE: DECEMBER 11, 2019

It is hard to believe that our sixth grade students are already starting the process to transition to Margaret Mead Junior High School!  We know the transition to junior high potentially comes with excitement and anxiety.  Therefore, the Mead staff is taking great care in ensuring your sixth grade student is ready for his/her move to Mead before they even arrive for their first day in August.  One of the first steps in this process is our sixth grade parent and student meeting on December 11, 2019.  The purpose of this meeting is to familiarize you with the curriculum, the school improvement plan, and student activities offered at Mead Junior High School.  Mead will also review the procedure for selecting classes and answer specific questions you may have pertaining to your child’s academic programming next school year. Teachers will be available to discuss science, math, social studies, language arts, PE/health and electives.  Mead is planning a short program that will begin at 6:00 pm in the Mead gymnasium.  Following the program, you will be given an opportunity to walk the building and ask questions you may have about Mead Junior High School.  PLEASE NOTE: This program is for parents/guardians and your sixth grade student.  Mead encourages you to bring your sixth grade student to this presentation, if possible.  Prior to this upcoming Sixth Grade Parent & Student Meeting, Mead will be visiting the our school to talk with your future Mustang about life at Mead.  During their visits to the sixth grade classrooms, they will talk with your child about the elective offerings and request process.  The course request process for seventh grade is very important.  Student request sheets are due to your child’s sixth grade teacher by December 13, 2019.  Please feel free to contact Scott Ross at Mead at 847-357-6000 if you have any questions!
